The very first Pottstown Brewfest was held in October to great success. Now the organizers are putting a new twist on the beerfest by staging the inaugural Pottstown Firkin Fest on Saturday, April 30, from 1–4 p.m. at Manatawny Park (75 W. King St., Pottstown).

A firkin is a barrel, equivalent to 10.8 gallons, that holds cask-conditioned ale. The beer has a much gentler level of carbonation, boasts a rounder mouthfeel and, since it is unfiltered, is slightly cloudy and shows a marginally more complex flavor and aromatic profile.

The Pottstown Firkin Fest is an exclusive event limited to just 500 guests. Sample at least 40 firkins of extremely rare and limited beers from the best craft brewers from the Mid-Atlantic and across the United States. Admission for this all-VIP event includes unlimited tastings, a premium sampling glass, live music and catered cuisine from Lily’s Grill and Heart Food Truck. Attendees will get to vote for their favorite firkin and help decide which beer is awarded the title of “Firkin Great!”

Some of the breweries committed to attending with an exclusive firkin of beer include local favorites Armstrong Ales, Conshohocken Brewing Company, Sly Fox Brewing Company, 2SP Brewing Company and newcomer Hidden River Brewing Company.

Tickets to the event are $75 per person. Designated drivers are $25. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.pottstownfirkin.com.
