Twelve chefs are sharpening their knives for some philanthropic fun during this year’s EATS Philly: Two Kitchens/Two Countries, unfolding Tues., April 23, from 6-9 p.m. Bonus: it’s all going down at one of Philly’s hardest-to-get reservations, Vie (600 N. Broad St.).
A virtual chef’s who’s who will bring it to benefit EATS (Eat Along the Streets), a nonprofit launched by Moon Krapugthong (Chabaa Thai, Yanako) and Judy Spielman (Space by Spielman, Ltd.) to help kids here and in Thailand, where Chef Moon was born and raised.
Note three James Beard semifinalists—Greg Vernick (Vernick Food & Drink), Marcie Turney (Jamonera, Barbuzzo, Lolita, Marcie Blaine Chocolates, Grocery, Verde) and Sylva Senat (Tashan)—among the evening’s heavy hitters: Aimee Olexy (Talula’s Table and Talula’s Garden), Angie Brown-Johnson (Soul; Mt. Airy Cafe, Angie Brown’s), Chad Rosenthal (The Lucky Well, Rosey’s BBQ), Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby (Vedge), Top Chef’s Chaz Brown (The Fatty Crab), Clark Gilbert (Bisou), Michael Fiorello (Garces Restaurant Group), Tim Spinner (Cantina Feliz) and Tony Clark (Valley Forge Casino) looking to defend his title.
If that’s not tasty enough, the Philadelphia Mobile Food Association (PMFA) is rolling out food trucks so there’s something for everyone: Nomad Pizza, Gozen Yogurt, The Sunflower Truck Stop, Just Jackie’s, Local 215, The Cow & the Curd, Sammy Chon’s, Vernalicious and Foo Truck.
It’ll be hard for the judges—chef/author Aliza Green, Philadelphia Inquirer’s Maureen Fitzgerald and Michael Klein, Town Dish’s Mary Bigham and Children’s Village’s Chef Wilhelmina Bell—to pick a winner, but it’s all in good fun and for a good cause: proceeds will go toward kitchen renovations at Children’s Village in Philadelphia and Wat Bodd Voraditth orphanage in Thailand.
