Amid Conshohocken’s hustle and bustle lies Southern Cross Kitchen, a downtown, bi-level beauty themed around iconic recipes originating below the Mason-Dixon Line and incredible Southern hospitality. For the holiday season, owners Marianne Gere and Kim Strengari invite locals to host their seasonal bashes in-house, and to up the ante, they’ve teamed with the makers of Kentucky’s Jefferson Bourbon to provide personal barrels to share at your upcoming affair.
Not only will the small batch bourbon be a selling point of your fall or winter soiree, but SCK will provide the unique opportunity for guests to craft their own barrel-aged cocktails. Butlered hors d’oeuvres crafted with bourbon in mind will elevate the experience, featuring bites like Di Bruno Bros. cheese, shrimp cocktail with Bloody Mary dip, short rib sliders, chicken jambalaya, baby lamb chops with mint pesto, and mac and cheese.
For those of you not acquainted with this fine, “ridiculously small-batch” bourbon that’s being thrown in the spotlight for SCK’s upcoming events, drink this in: The presidential-inspired bourbon whiskey was founded just over 15 years ago by father and son Chet and Trey Zoeller. Unpretentious and uncomplicated, Jefferson’s Bourbon is versatile spirit when it comes to serving it on the rocks or blended. Amber in color, it weighs in suitably well-balanced, and hosts a pronounced caramel nose and velvety smooth finish.
Reservations are required 30 days in advance for your private bourbon bash. The cost is $1500 (with tax and service) and includes a barrel of Jefferson’s Bourbon, hors d’oeuvres for up to 25 friends, and a keepsake bourbon barrel etched with the host’s name and date of the event.
