Nothing says summer like smokey barbecue or fresh fish accompanied by a variety of ripe veggies. Find just that at Marianne Gere and Kim Strengari’s Southern Cross Kitchen, which now features a new summer menu dishing up modern comfort food with a hot flare.
The owners have been experimenting and getting creative with their Southern-inspired cuisine, and it certainly shows. New items that will satisfy any barbecue craving include a barbecue brisket sandwich, short rib grilled cheese and pork belly sandwich, all served with French fries.
Or, opt for fish, like the blackened salmon smothered in a honey basil drizzle and served with a side of jalapeño cornbread. Another option is crab cakes served with fried green tomatoes and cajun aioli.
If that doesn’t have your mouth watering, then the pan-fried catfish—a classic Southern dish with a twist of andouille sausage and a mix of corn, mushrooms, potatoes, grilled asparagus and spicy aioli—should do the trick.
The tantalizing Peaches n’ Brie is a must-try. This melted brie flatbread is topped with caramelized onions, fried kale and spicy pecans.
Southern Cross Kitchen is open Monday through Friday,11 a.m.–2 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.–2 a.m..
