Chester County and its surrounding suburbs are experiencing a restaurant renaissance, with summertime proving to be the most attractive season for ownership shuffles, new concept debuts, and much more. Full agenda below:
As reported in early June, Downingtown’s Firecreek Restaurant closed its doors as of Father’s Day 2013, with Dave Magrogan’s 350-seat Italian concept, Stella Rossa, taking over the space late this summer.
Market Street Grill announced last week they were moving into Downingtown too, taking over the former home of Blue Cafe (50 E. Pennsylvania Ave.) as of Tuesday, July 9. The tentative name for their new space is Green Street Grille and diners can expect to see the same fine-tuned brunch offerings as seen at their West Chester location.
As of mid-June, the P.J. Whelihan’s crew debuted the second location of their craft beer bar, The Pour House, which serves more than 140 craft and Belgian bottled beers with 20 rotating drafts. The upscale pub can be found at the former Cheeseburger in Paradise location on Route 100 in Exton. An attractive food menu accompanies the beer-heavy beverage program, featuring fresh-shucked oysters, an array of burgers and sandwiches, special salads, and bar snacks.
Over in West Chester, Roots Cafe officially relocated to the former home of Gilmore’s Restaurant (133 E. Gay St.) as of June 25. With the relocation came the debut of dinner service, which is now available in addition to breakfast and lunch on Thursdays through Saturdays. The restaurant remains a BYOB and also features outdoor seating.
Come mid-August, Cupcake Wars’ winner Dia Doce will expand her mobile cupcake business to a brick-and-mortar store at 100 S. High St. As a partnership with the brand new company, Cathey’s Coffee Bar, the baker will feature her acclaimed cupcakes aside handcrafted smoothies, juices and coffee.
Kennett Brewing Company announced the official location of their coming-soon brewery, to be found at 109 S. Broad St. in downtown Kennett Square as of late 2013. They will brew on site and plan to offer their extraordinary beer with a limited menu that will offer traditional taproom fare. A full menu of traditional beer styles will be brewed, as well as several unique offerings.
Two Stones Pub is also coming to Kennett Square later this year, in early October, as the second location of the award-winning, Delaware-based craft beer bar. Locals can expect at least 20 beers on tap, the use of Dogfish Head’s Randall (an organoleptic hop transducer module) for in-house infusions, Sunday Brunch, brews to go and more.
