Ginger beer is ginger ale grown up. The robust, non-alcoholic soft drink acts as a suitable refreshment in the warm-weather season and is capable of backing any cocktail as we ease into summer.

But, when we stumbled upon Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer, which is currently making its rounds in the Philadelphia market, we were impressed by how it matches up against other traditional ginger beers—and what made it better: it actually has booze in it.

Crafted in the U.K., this alcoholic ginger beer has established its own niche in the U.S. market, weighing in at a cool 4.8% ABV. Perfect as an insta-cocktail, as poured over ice with a lemon or lime wedge, the Crabbie’s brand is versatile, approachable, and terrifically well-balanced with its ginger spice.

Originally crafted in 1801 via a top-secret recipe that combined Far East-sourced ginger, cold-steeped for up to six weeks and combined with exotic spices, we’re certain this isn’t just any ginger beer. And, as its history goes, elephants were used to transport Crabbie’s goods to ships to import to Scotland, which is why you’ll spy elephants in the logo.

But, the England-imported ginger beer isn’t just about their standard flagship flavor either. Next week, they’re hitting the greater Philadelphia region to introduce their latest concoction: a zesty orange ginger beer variety, which possesses a lighter ginger profile.
