Score Maine-Fresh Lobster Rolls in Berwyn

A group of 10 friends have banded together to throw the New England summer staple, the indulgent lobster roll, into the year-round spotlight on the Main Line.

Berwyn’s Quincy’s Original Lobster Rolls in Swedesford Plaza Shopping Center is their final product, established as a tribute to their repeat summers on the Maine coast. It’s the gents’ answer to providing the downright addictive, authentic sandwich to all Philly-area locals—even if they aren’t trekking up north this summer.

“We’d eat lobster rolls on a regular basis,” revealed Jeremy McCann, president of Quincy’s Original. “We had all vacationed in New England and loved the atmosphere and the food! One day, we questioned, ‘why not bring a high-end New England fast-casual restaurant to this area.’ We wanted to recreate that feeling, especially eating the local fare with your family.”

They started with a baseline of utterly fresh Maine lobster imported multiple times a week. Then,  they packed the fresh, off-the-boat chunks of Maine lobster in lightly buttered, grilled split top buns in varying lobster roll constructions. Since the iconic seafood-packed sandwich will forever be part of an eternal debate (do you like it chilled with lemon, warm with drawn butter, with maybe in salad form?), McCann and his team produced a “heaven on bread” menu that fulfills all parties’ lobster roll desires.

From the perfectly proportioned Classic, with a mix of claw, knuckle, and tail, a smear of light mayo and a drizzle of lemon; to the Main Liner, stuffed with Quincy’s top-secret lobster salad—ideally not over-mayoed; and the fun-loving BLT, with crispy bacon, stellar chunks of lobster and tomato, the overall results are worthy of a lobster outing—or 3.

But wait—there’s more. They also offer the no-carb Lobster boats with hearty leaves of romaine acting as your seafood-carrying vessel (available with any variation), and the sampler, which allows those indecisive to taste-test each flavor-packed rendition. Silky smooth bowls of Maine lobster bisque, available crowned with even more hunks of diced lobster meat, and New England clam chowder promise to send your taste-buds on a New England whirlwind, while the lobster-stuffed grilled cheese is a cozy alternative to the seaside shack-inspired fare.

Everything is hand-selected, sourced and shipped from up north, from the Cape Cod chips, to the from-scratch whoopie pies and even, the soups. “We wanted everything to come from the New England region—and it does,” he said.

We’re dubbing Quincy’s Original Lobster Rolls worthy of a weekly visit. But, don’t just trust us: sail up inside the Maine-focused gem, one dressed with Cape Cod-style clapboard, mirrored windows and a harbor mural, and go claw-to-claw. You’re in for a year-round treat.
