Just off Shadyside Road’s bucolic ribbon of wooded roadway, there’s an unexpected outpost with a front door that reads, “A Heavenly Selection, Devilishly Good.” Indeed, at the two-year-old Righteous Tap House, chef Kevin Diskin concocts sinfully delicious comfort fare, accompanied by over 25 draft beers that are heavily rotated and exceedingly focused on big Belgian and heady German varieties.
Diskin is a fanatical saucier who’s cooked at Center City’s famed Le Bec-Fin and the acclaimed Gilmore’s in West Chester. At this family-friendly 80-seat eatery, he finds his new calling in a decadent selection of simple bar snacks and shareables whose flavors and preparations hint at something more complex. Among the offerings: cheesesteak spring rolls chicken wings, fish and chips, bacon-flecked mac and cheese, tacos, soups, salads, and sandwiches. A must-try for meat lovers is the aptly named Inquisition Burger—two beef patties sourced from artisanal purveyor Pat LaFrieda, cooked to perfection, slathered with bacon jam, and topped with Cooper Sharp cheese and a fried egg.
Righteous Tap Room may seem like its off the beaten path, but it’s really just minutes from downtown West Chester. Diskin’s elevated tavern fare warrants a special trip—and repeat visits.
