» Inaugural honor: The presidential swearing-in isn’t the only happening this month. On Jan. 26, the James Beard House welcomes chefs from Yangming (1051 Conestoga Road, Bryn Mawr; yangmingrestaurant.com, 610-527-3200) for its annual Chinese New Year Extravaganza. In celebration of the Year of the Ox, Yangming’s culinary team will prepare a traditional feast with a twist, featuring hors d’oeuvres like firecracker truffle-oiled tri-mushroom spring rolls, kimchee beef and Chinese chive dumplings, spicy Ahi tuna tartare, and grilled Malaysian belacan satay shrimp. Equally enticing entrées include pan-seared, lotus-root crisped black sea bass with Shanghai baby bok choy, Chinese go-chi berries, mango, freshwater chestnuts and “Kaoling” liquor-black bean emulsion; and orchid oolong tea-smoked duck with Chinese eggplant salsa, rice noodles and tamarind-hoisin sauce. The James Beard menu will be offered at Yangming Jan. 22-Feb. 28 at a reasonable $56 per person, plus tax and gratuities (minimum four people).
