Philly Happenings: Jose Garces Book Signing and a $26K Truffle Extravaganza

You read that right. Philly’s Le Castagne offers the most decadent meal in town, testing the limits of both belts and wallets in Center City.

On Saturday, Dec. 15 from 4-6 p.m., chef Jose Garces will be at his Chestnut Street restaurant Chifa signing copies of his new cookbook, The Latin Road Home. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served, and if you’re looking to knock out some Christmas shopping, specially made Latin Road Home baskets ($160) will be available for purchase.

Not that we think anyone would actually do this, but we wanted to report it anyway. Center City’s Le Castagne restaurant is offering a $26,000 truffle dinner. Yes, that’s right, $26,000. The nine-course dinner includes dishes made with truffles (of course), plus wine pairings and a limited edition Panerai Luminor Submersible wristwatch and a full-day Italian cooking class with the restaurant’s executive chef. We’re wondering how well this dinner will go over this time of year, but I’d love to know if anyone actually goes!
