Pennsylvania has put itself on the wine map with places like Chaddsford Winery and those along the Pennsylvania Wine Trail that are popular with oenophiles looking to sample some local wine and enjoy the day.
Another winery to check out in your travels is a small microwinery in Avondale (a little bit past Kennett Square) called Va La Vineyards. The family-run vineyard produces small batches (only 200-3,000 bottles) of four types on wine, each a blend of northern Italian varieties. The wines have received plenty of accolades from various publications for their unconventionality, refinement and uniqueness, and we can’t help but be curious to try them out for ourselves!
Currently, Va La hosts tastings in their barn for up to six people for $20 but the barn can be rented out for private events. Wine is also available for purchase by the bottle at the vineyard. To read about the wines produced and for more information about Va La Vineyards, visit valavineyards.com.
