Penns Woods Winery Serves Up a Super Bowl Pairings Menu

Your Super Bowl party doesn’t have to be all beers and brats. Try out some of Penns Woods Winery’s best wines that can easily stack up to the heartiest of game day fare.

It’s becoming more and more common that high quality wines are finding their place along the sidelines during any game-watching session. But, with the Super Bowl slated to unfold this Sunday, Feb. 3, one local winemaker knows that it isn’t just about what you’re drinking during the “big game”—it’s about what you’re eating too.

Penns Woods Winery’s winemaker Gino Razzi and his Chadds Ford-based team are serving up a seamless menu for what classic snacks to pair with their their diverse, Italian-influenced repertoire. Whether you consider yourself partial to reds or whites, or you’ve decided it’ll be a fine time to trade in beer for local wine this Super Bowl party, all the pairing cards are laid out for you below.

Featured Wine: Penns Woods Sauvignon Blanc
Suggested Pairing: Shrimp cocktail

The golden, complex wine’s acidity pairs well with a snappy cocktail sauce and balances with the sweetness of fresh shrimp.

Featured Wine: Chardonnay Reserve
Suggested Pairing: Pigs in a blanket

The creaminess of the slightly oaked white works as the perfect complement to the buttery crust of the savory rounds of pork.

Featured Wine: Bancroft Riesling or Bancroft Field Blend Red
Suggested Pairing: Hot wings and blue cheese

If you stick with the Riesling, the sugar in the light-bodied wine helps to cut the heat of the wings. If you pair with the Field Blend, this lighter, off-dry red has the perfect mix of flavors to counterbalance the spicy wing sauce, while complementing the blue cheese. (Penns Woods considers this pairing their “touchdown” of Super Bowl food-and-drink match-ups.)

This bold, deep blend of cabernet and merlot has the long-lasting ability to stand-up against full flavored meat dishes, especially all things barbecue.

The St. Emilion-inspired, full-bodied merlot blasts with the ideal mix of acidity and smokiness, allowing it to mingle with even the spiciest of chili recipes.
