News & Notes

» A real gem: For a little online fun—and a jingle sing-a-long—go to pearlphilly.com, the website for Pearl (1904 Chestnut St.; 215-564-9090), Rittenhouse Square’s new two-story Pan-Asian fusion restaurant and lounge. It boasts Gladwyne native Ari Weiswasser as executive chef and a chic second floor offering European bottle service. (If the $2,000 bottle of Gran Patron Burdeos tequila is too riff-raff for your blue blood, there’s also a $3,000 bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII.) Lounge highlights include a thumping sound system, LED lighting effects, and plush velvet and beaded booths. Even the dining room sounds sexy, with its soft, suede banquettes and shimmering bead drapes. The wine list touts 100-plus bottles and 17 boutique blends available by the glass. There are also 25 sakes by the glass. To punctuate the South Beach-style decadence, Weiswasser’s menu features rapturous combinations such as lacquered pork ribs, flash-grilled hamachi, ginger-butter-crusted lobster (said to be a full 2 pounds) and pot de crème with anise-flavored caramel, cinnamon and powdered ginger. May I suggest taking a limo?
