Main Line Farmers' Markets Are Now Open

The Oakmont, Bala Cynwyd and Bryn Mawr markets have set up shop, offering the best in local produce, dairy, chocolate and more.

It’s finally that time of year again! Local farmers’ markets are beginning to set up shop, and here are three locations now in full swing.

The Oakmont Farmers Market in Havertown kicked off May 18 and will last through Aug. 31. If you’ve shopped at this market before, you know that delicious local veggies, fruit, cheese, poultry, beef and bread, plus flowers and more, are for sale. To see who’s selling their goods each week, visit oakmontfarmersmarket.org. Wednesdays, 3-7 p.m. 2419 W. Darby Road, Havertown.

Fresh selections from New Jersey's Fruitwood Orchards. The Bala Cynwyd Farmers Market opened for the season on May 19. Located in the parking lot of the GSB building at Belmont Avenue and St. Asaphs Road, this market takes place on Thursdays, and it’s the perfect place to stop for dinner on your way home from work. Expect lots of local fruit and vegetables—the heirloom tomatoes from Green Zebra Farm in Glen Mills are some of the best I’ve ever had—along with meats, eggs and baked goods like gourmet cupcakes from Jimmies Cupcake Co. and other treats from Philadelphia’s Wild Flour Bakery. Thursdays, 3-7 p.m. Visit balacynwydfarmersmarket.weebly.com.

If Saturday is your shopping day, the Bryn Mawr Farmers Market is the place for you. Situated at Lancaster and Morris avenues by the train station, this market features loads of local items, from vegetables, fruit and cheese to meat, coffee and chocolate. (John & Kira’s chocolate equals “yum,” in my book.) Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Visit brynmawrfarmersmarket.blogspot.com.
