Mad Mex, the Pittsburgh-based cantina chain that fuses a funky mix of Mexican, southeast Asian and Spanish cuisine, is scheduled for a summer opening in Wynnewood Shopping Center in the former home of Borders. This will be the third Philadelphia-area Mad Mex, which also has locations in University City (3401 Walnut) and Willow Grove (2862 W Moreland Road).
Mad Mex’s menu features simple house-made marinades of citrus and spices, fresh dips and salsas that come with a basket of locally-made white, red, yellow and blue corn tortilla chips and multiple varieties of tacos, quesadillas, burritos and fajitas. Intriguing variations on traditional guacamole include bacon-tomato and chipotle-walnut-golden raisin.
The bar program spotlights a compelling list of tequilas, margaritas made with freshly squeezed lime juice, and has a heavy-hitting craft draft list.
Better yet, Mad Mex has a philanthropic side, too. Starting in September, the restaurant plans to host two benefit dinners per month giving 100% of the proceeds directly to the beneficiaries, part of the company’s effort to give back to the community.
Design is rustic-modern in a festive, yet casual atmosphere. The dining room space can seat up to 50, with a 27-seat bar and seasonal outdoor patio seating.
Mad Mex will be located at 50 E. Wynnewood Rd. in Wynnewood. Learn more at www.madmex.com.
