Lance’s Brewery Tour Hits Victory Brewing Company

Gifted beer historian Lance Rice is travelling the nation to explore some of the country’s greatest breweries—and Victory is getting in on the action.

For more than 40 years, Lance Rice, a gifted beer historian with autism from Vermilion, Ohio, has had a dream of travelling the nation to explore some of the country’s greatest breweries—all to write a book about the history and culture of American beer.

His acclaimed journey is titled Lance’s Brewery Tour, with his nephew, Andrew Rice, joining the excursion to document the trip for a future independent film released by Rare Brain Studios. As a project aiming to showcase the “beauty of autism, and the power of never giving up your dream,” Rice will visit 16 breweries during his travels, which started June 20 and runs through July 10. Rice’s first stop was Great Lakes Brewing Company of Cleveland, Ohio, and his last planned visit will be at Harpoon Brewery in Boston, Mass.

On July 3, the Lance’s Brewery Tour team will hit Philadelphia’s suburbs to visit Downingtown’s Victory Brewing Company, not only a stop on the tour, but also a partner in the project. As part of Lance’s visit, Victory will host a charitable happy hour from 4–7 p.m., to contribute to Lance’s quest and the  “Beer. Autism. Hope.” campaign, donating a portion of the sales to the cause.

Lance’s Brewery Tour was made possible by the generous support raised from his successful Kickstarter campaign, as well as the charitable contributions from breweries, including Victory Brewing Company. One hundred percent of the Kickstarter donations go to Lance’s Brewery Tour—which is more than just a film and book. Through Lance’s Brewery Tour, they will be able to establish a charity called Lance’s Room, which will help others with autism attend college, receive vocational training and more.
