Jasper's Westside Offers Rustic Sophistication and Elevated Bar Fare

An offshoot of Jasper’s Backyard, this West Conshohocken eatery is perfect for weeknight happy hour.

Mike and Kelly Sloane love serving great food and drinks to their neighbors. They’ve been doing it for years at Jasper’s Backyard in Conshohocken—and they dig it so much that they recently debuted Jasper’s Westside in West Conshy. The new location takes over the space formerly occupied by Imbibe and Stella Blu, imparting a rustic sophistication not unlike the original Jasper’s. There’s plenty of whitewashed brick, and an intimate bar with bridge views lends some bustle to the atmosphere.

Overseeing the diminutive kitchen, Hilary Hamilton offers a varied selection of elevated American bar fare. Among the options: crisp pork-belly bites overstuffed with maple-garlic aioli; hefty signature sandwiches like a Cuban with Gruyère and the 48-hour brined turkey breast, topped with coleslaw, house Russian dressing and sharp cheddar, on rye. Dinner entrées include pan-seared bass, a flat-iron steak and butter-poached, thyme-basted scallops. A must is the organic herb-roasted marinated chicken breast from Lancaster-based Freebird, served with artichoke over quinoa in a white-wine mustard sauce.

The latest Jasper’s is a great spot for weeknight happy hour. Handcrafted cocktails are meticulously prepared, and the lists of draft beers, bottled ciders and wine are small but on point. The inviting vibe encourages lingering. Be sure to do so long enough to savor Hamilton’s bittersweet chocolate pie.
