The leading contender of chilly weather dinner is the classic pot pie. Wrapped in a buttery, flaky shell, and pumped with savory sauce, generous chicken and chunky vegetables, each forkful is pure pie bliss, and what could make it even better? Not making it yourself, of course.
Villanova’s Ithan Market has become our go-to staple for fresh, to-go pot pies, with like-minded customers walking in daily to snag their share of the old-world comfort food. Due to its mouthwatering popularly, nearly 4,000 pounds of pot pie are crafted each year. It’s a no-brainer then that a leading, local grocery store chain caught wind of owners Marion and James Green’s decadent creations and requested their share.
Come this winter, Main Liners can expect Ithan Market’s life-changing pot pies stocked in five area-wide Whole Foods Markets, including the Devon, Wynnewood, Plymouth Meeting, Glen Mills, and North Wales. Prior to the pies’ Main Line launch, fanatics have and will continue to be able to nab the packed pastries in stock at Whole Foods of South Street in Philadelphia.
We’re certain that after all this dinnertime chatter, you’re asking what makes this signature dish so special. Marion reports that, “each pie is filled with a traditional mix of carrots, peas, green beans and corn, and the crust is made of real butter, whole milk and lard.” The selling point, she reveals, is that they only use natural products—milk is growth hormone-free, lard is natural and non-hydrogenated, and the chicken bouillon is low sodium and vegetable-based.
And, you can’t forget the secret ingredient: “A whole lot of love!”
