Help Birchrun Hill Farm Raise a Cheese Cave

High demand for this local favorite has made the cheese company outgrow its Chester County farm.

Over the last seven years, you’ve probably had the pleasure of tasting one of Birchrun Hill Farms stand-out cheeses. Sold in farmers markets and gourmet establishments throughout the region like Talula’s Table and Di Bruno Bros. and served at restaurants such as Tired Hands Brewing Company and White Dog Cafe, the handcrafted raw milk cheeses capture the essence of their 100-year-old Chester County Farm.

Now, Birchrun Hill’s cheese-making family, the Millers, are asking for your help. They have been producing their cheeses off-site and have outgrown the facility. In order to meet the demand for cheeses you love like Fat Cat, Birchrun Blue and Equinox, they need to raise some funds.

While they have secured financing to build the structure for the new cheese-making facility and plan to break ground this year, they still need to outfit the cave in order to actually make cheese. Items needed include a curd vat, shelving for aging the cheeses and a cooling system.

They are offering some one-of-a-kind rewards via their Kickstarter campaign in exchange for a contribution. Score a limited edition poster, a mesh-embroidered baseball cap with the logo or spend the whole day with the Millers learning to make cheese.

On Monday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., join cheesemaker Sue Miller at Talula’s Table in Kennett Square (102 W. State St.) for an in-person opportunity to help raise the cheese cave. Sue will share her expertise while you sip on complimentary Victory Beer and nibble on the latest of Birchrun Hills’ delicious cheese creations.

No tickets or RSVP are needed, but donations to the effort are encouraged. As always, the shop will be stocked with plenty of gourmet foods, baked goods, artisanal cheeses and gift baskets for the food-lover on your gift giving list. More information about the event can be found on their Facebook page.
