You won’t find field greens, quinoa bowls or guava smoothies on the menu at Greg’s Kitchen. Tucked away in his minimalistic, 22-seat blip along Manayunk’s Main Street, prep cook extraordinaire Greg Gillin doles out all-day breakfasts and copious hot and cold lunchtime sandwiches Tuesday-Sunday.
Hangovers are no match for the addictive fried tater tots that accompany some of Gillin’s greatest hits, including the Italian Pork Brekky, a belly-busting rendition of the Philly classic, minus the roll. For his version, seasoned slow-roasted pork, broccoli rabe and fried onions are tossed with three scrambled eggs and heaped atop a foundation of tots, with melted provolone blanketing the pile. Another fan favorite, the homemade chipped beef also smothers a soppy layer of potato nuggets.
Standout sandwiches include a hefty BLT and the grilled reuben, with freshly roasted turkey and corned beef, respectively. Or try an egg-topped burger on a Brioche bun with (what else?) a side of tater tots.
