Gluten-Free Desserts: Philadelphia’s COOK Hosts Genevieve Sherrow

PLUS: Terrain at Styer’s in Glen Mills holds demonstrations on making hot toddies and other drinks during its Winter Warmers event.

January is the perfect time to launch into something new—maybe a cooking class and healthy eating routine, or experimenting with some recipes from those old, dusty cookbooks.

If you want to hone your cooking skills, a few spots are available in several classes at Audrey Claire Taichman’s überpopular cooking school, COOK. On Jan. 14 at 1 p.m., join Genevieve Sherrow to learn how to make several gluten-free desserts like gingerbread with homemade whipped cream, pumpkin oatmeal cookies and apple cake. Then on Jan. 21, learn basic knife skills (and put them to the test) by practicing how to mince, dice and julienne. Register at audreyclairecook.com.

On Jan. 14, you may want to head to Terrain at Styer’s in Glen Mills to be part of the Winter Warmers event. A Terrain kitchen specialist will be on hand, demonstrating how to make the perfect hot toddy and other warm drinks for the cold weather. The event is free, and you’ll be able to sample these belly-warming concoctions. 1-2 p.m. Visit shopterrain.com.
