Valley Green Inn’s atmosphere is simply unparalleled. Just a brief drive across the Schuylkill from Bala Cynwyd, this historic building along the Wissahickon trail serves up nouveau American fare in a distinguished country roadhouse. Built in 1850 and saved from destruction during the 1930s, Valley Green makes visits feel like a step back in time. The cozy, comfy atmosphere is only enhanced during winter by the warmth of electric fireplaces.

White Dog Cafe

981 Baltimore Pke., Glen Mills; 181 Gordon Dr., Exton

This Main Line foodie favorite has locations all around the western suburbs, but only two eateries have fireplaces: Glen Mills and Chester Springs. The latter is the newest member of the White Dog family at just over half a year old. The expansive covered outdoor patio space has a wood-burning fireplace to warm diners up on blustery winter days. Plus, the indoor dining room has another fireplace flanked by a porcelain-white poodle.

White Dog Cafe Glen Mills, meanwhile, features a large indoor fireplace in the living room where brass dog-shaped sconces line the walls and black marble tabletops set the scene for a delicious meal.

Will’s + Bill’s Brewery and Restaurant

324 Swedesford Rd., Berwyn

Serving up everything from baba ghanoush to oysters to tikka masala, this fusion kitchen just outside of Berwyn has a lively bar with several TVs in addition to a varied and thoughtfully crafted menu. If you’re looking for a more toned-down atmosphere, why not ask for a table by the fire to warm yourself up?
