Opening Tap List Announced for Coming-Soon Barren Hill Tavern

Share

Brewing operations are well underway at Lafayette Hill’s Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery, the highly-anticipated brewpub reviving the former home of General Lafayette Inn & Brewery, backed by the craft beer-centric proprietor Erin Wallace.

While the brewpub receives finishing touches, with its fall opening just around the corner, Barren Hill’s head brewer Scott Morrison reveals that the opening tap list and beers are ready for thirsty fans.

Local hop fans eager to see what the repeat Great American Beer Fest brewer has dreamed up are in luck too. As of Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., all six of Barren Hill’s opening beers will be available at Wallace’s other craft beer bar, Philadelphia’s Devil’s Den. In the near future, her Manayunk haunt, Old Eagle Tavern, will host a “Meet the Brewer” night and the beers will be tapped there as well.

Curious what liquid gold will be pouring as of tomorrow night—and soon at Barren Hill? Full tasting sheet below.

Biere De Octobre: A malty, earthy French-style Country Biere de Garde crafted with French Malt, French Strisselspalt and Aramis hops.

Belgian Gold: Morrison reveals this beer is “inspired by Duvel, the classic Belgian Golden.” Possessing a medium-hop bitterness, the gold beauty is concocted with Belgian Pilsner malt and Slovak Styrian Golding hops.

German Pale Ale: An American pale ale style with German hops, this is what Scott would “imagine the German brewers in Philadelphia producing in the late 1800s.” The beer makes use of Hallertau, Opal and Brewer’s Gold hops from Germany. And for a twist, they aged the beer on American Cherry.

Pilsner IPA: This is a hybrid style, also known as an Imperial Pilsner. Morrison made a traditional German Pilsner, with a bit more malt and a generous amount of hops. Crafted with German Pearle and Hersbruker hops, he writes “this beer is all about the hop flavor and aroma.”

Galaxy Belgian IPA: “A true hybrid,” said Scott, crafted with Belgian yeast, Australian hops and American Barley. The Galaxy hops show a strong tropical fruit flavors: mango and passionfruit. “This is the first in a series of single-hopped Belgian IPAs.”

Berliner Double Weiss: “This was a rarely brewed style a few years ago, and now it’s a favorite of many,” said the brewer. As a refreshing, sour German wheat beer, expect a clean brightness and great wheat flavors.
