Not Your Everyday Diner: Introducing Conshohocken’s 401 Diner

Conshy’s dining scene keeps getting better. The latest addition: 401 Diner. Look for a casual place to enjoy some seriously comforting food.

There’s something about a good diner, and the Main Line has its standouts. Add Conshohocken’s 401 Diner to the list. Opening Oct. 1 for breakfast, 401’s food is a little different than some of the oft-heavy, run-of-the-mill options you see on diner menus. Think local, organic ingredients in free-range egg omelets; whole-wheat pancakes with cinnamon-scented apples; and roasted turkey with smashed potatoes, cranberry chutney, and herbed brioche stuffing.

Chef Michael Cappon of the neighboring Isabella, along with fellow Isabella owners Tom and Peter Richter, describe the food as “comfort with a conscience.” It’s affordable, and diners are encouraged to bring a bottle of wine (no corkage fee).

Early risers will be pleased to know that 401 opens every day at 6 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the kitchen offers a late-night menu until 3 a.m. Visit 401conshydiner.com.
