New Year, New Brunch: Mica Jumps on the Brunch Bandwagon for 2014

Chef Chip Roman’s Chestnut Hill-based bistro is jumping on the brunch bandwagon for 2014. Here we offer a short list of what to order from the Mica menu.

Chestnut Hill’s Mica is has made a New Year’s resolution to “always have brunch.” Those well-versed in owner/chef Chip Roman’s culinary achievements know that his Germantown Avenue bistro was without brunch service—until now (hallelujah for resolutions!).

After one peek at the menu, we suggest lovers of late-morning meals schedule a visit this Sun., Jan. 5 and experience Roman’s first breakfast service. A multitude of enticing options have already caught our eyes, from the house-cured Scottish salmon with porcini and potato cake to the classic “steak and eggs” with short ribs, polenta and fried egg, and the brioche French toast accented with Pennsylvania maple syrup and mascarpone cheese.

If you’re doing brunch right, be sure to add a stiff drink into the mix. The usual brunch suspects will be on hand—Bloody Marys, mimosas and spritzers. Since we believe there is always room for dessert (there is!), consider maxing out your experience with one of the many sweet endings: maple custard with toasted oats, chocolate cremeux with huckleberries and fresh doughnuts with Greek yogurt.
