New Tastes for a New Year with Jake’s & Cooper’s Wine Bar

Chef Bruce Cooper launches his “New Tastes for the New Year” menu to properly welcome 2013.

For 25 years, Jake’s & Cooper’s Wine Bar has stood poised and proper along Main Street, defined as an award-winning, white table cloth-lined fine dining destination of Manayunk. But, for chef Bruce Cooper, there was no better time than his quarter-century anniversary to launch his casual-inspired Jake’s side’s reconceptualization, flaunting a black walnut-topped tables, an exceptional wooden wine wall touting a new boutique beverage program, and a menu that’s less American classic and more global in flavor.

However, for 2013, the changes haven’t halted to a stop. Beginning Thursday, Jan. 3, and continuing every Sunday through Thursday through the month of January, the chef’s launching his “New Tastes for the New Year” menu. This fresh, affordable dining experience will allow locals to explore the reincarnation of the Main Street mainstay, with the menu offering four courses (including dessert!) for only $35, plus tax and gratuity.

With 12 new, enticing choices to choose from—including grilled octopus with tahini chickpea purée and fingerling potato, lemon herb shrimp with barbeque mustard, braised short ribs with polenta gnocchi and Gorgonzola cream sauce, and pan-seared Scottish salmon with brussels sprouts and chive ginger sauce—the January tasting is a perfect way to uncover how the chef is experiencing quite a renaissance within his kitchen. Sweet endings like the ice cream sampler (vanilla, bittersweet chocolate, Concord grape and brownie caramel included) will further sway your opinion that the revamp is well worth a revisit.
