Market Makeovers: Carlino’s in Ardmore and Narberth Cheese Co. Expand Their Shops

The storefronts of two Best of the Main Line & Western Suburbs winners have undergone major renovations—and I think you’ll like what you see.

Carlino’s Market in Ardmore (Best Tomato Pie 2011) closed for renovations at the end of July. I stopped in recently to pick up a few things and was so excited by its expansion and facelift! The store was always busting at the seams, so the new setup leaves plenty of room for shopping without bumping into everything or getting stuck in awkward lines at the deli counter. Now, each specialty has its own, much larger space. There’s a pizza shop that no longer shares its counter with the bread and rolls; a deli and prepared-foods area; a pasta-and-cheese section (of course); and even a bottle-your-own oil-and-vinegar nook. The coffee-and-pastry bar is a nice touch, too. Oh, and if you go to Carlino’s Facebook page and click “Fan Offers,” you can get $2 off one of their winning tomato pies until Sept. 8.

Narberth Cheese Co. (Best Cheese Selection 2011) has also expanded. No more than five people could comfortably fit in the tiny store with its one narrow aisle, but owner Soheila Sobhani has recently taken over the adjacent space that used to be a dry cleaner’s. Now, there’s ample room to get your coffee and bagel in the morning, order some bread and cheese, and browse the shelved specialty items.
