Kennett Square's Annual Mushroom Festival Returns for Its 27th Year

Share

You don’t have to be a mushroom lover to enjoy Kennett Square’s annual Mushroom Festival, but it probably wouldn’t hurt. Known as the mushroom capital of the world, Kennett Square is now in its 27th year of celebrating the festival, taking place Sept. 8-9. The two-day event will feature loads of games, music, contests, cooking demonstrations, celebrity chef visits, farm tours, growers’ exhibits and of course, lots of mushroom tastings. There will be some unexpected preparations for guests to try, from fried and pickled mushrooms to exotic ice cream varieties.

New to the festival this year is the national fried mushroom eating contest that is bringing out 16 amateur and professional competitive eaters to see if one of them can set the first national record. Maybe more attractive to some guests are the cooking demonstrations by guests chefs like Top Chef’s Antonia Lofaso and many more.
