For the first time ever, the Geographical Society of Philadelphia will host GEOfest, a weeklong film-and-food festival centered on extreme travel. Beginning Nov. 6, a film will be paired with a pre-screening “GEOfeast,” which showcases the cuisine of the film’s location.
Kick off the festival by joining Gladwyne resident and La Colombe co-founder Todd Carmichael for a tasting of international coffee at Philly’s AIA Bookstore, where he’ll pour brews from a vintage café truck. Later that day at the Franklin Institute, enjoy the film Positively Polar!, which documents Carmichael’s expedition to the South Pole. Dine on a themed dinner—“Everything on Ice”—beforehand.
On Nov. 8 at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, get your tickets to Oceans 8, the kayak voyage of National Geographic adventurer Jon Bowermaster. The film begins at 7:30 p.m., but you can enjoy a delicious seafood dinner across the street at Tango beforehand.
