The opening of Citron and Rose, Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook’s glatt kosher eatery in Merion is one of the most exciting things to happen to the Main Line dining scene in quite a while, and we can’t wait to check it out for ourselves. We’ve watched the progress of the Montgomery Avenue restaurant over the months and the doors finally opened for business last Wednesday. So what can you expect? Well, probably a lot of buzz and maybe some long waits given Solomonov’s reputation as one of the best chefs in the area, but we’ll gladly wait for a chance to see what’s cookin’.
Solomonov and Cook traveled extensively across Europe, eating in kosher restaurants along the way looking for inspiration. The result is a menu that reinterprets classic Jewish dishes with modern touches and ingredients, staying within glatt kosher guidelines, of course. A few of the dishes on offer include roast chicken with a honey-paprika glaze, potatoes and baby arugula, baked whole fish en papillote with parsley potatoes and sweet peppers, and praline challah French toast with non-dairy coffee ice cream, fried pecans and maple syrup. The restaurant also has a catering component which can be booked for on-and-off-site events.
Citron and Rose is open for dinner Sun.-Thurs. from 5:30-10 p.m.
