'A Taste for Literacy': Nectar Hosts a Fall Fundraiser for the Mighty Writers Nonprofit

Eat. Drink. Read. Write: A Taste for Literacy will feature cocktails, an auction of culinary prizes, and moreā€”all to help a Philadelphia organization expand. Find out when.

Inside Berwyn's Nectar restaurant.Nectar’s Patrick Feury seems to always have something going on, and Sept. 11 is no exception. Along with business partners Henry Chu, Michael Wei and Kenny Huang, he will host a cocktail party to raise money for Mighty Writers, a nonprofit started by former newspaper and magazine editor Tim Whitaker. Through after-school and weekend workshops, the organization teaches kids how to read, write and communicate effectively. They write songs, make comic books, and create videos that tell their stories. Whitaker hopes to expand this popular program to other Philadelphia neighborhoods, but, like everything else, it takes money. Eat. Drink. Read. Write: A Taste for Literacy will feature an auction for wine and cooking classes, plus culinary trips. Guests can enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and refreshing cocktails. 2 p.m. $85. Visit mightywriters.org.
