After a successful inaugural year at Logan Circle in 2012, Dîner en Blanc once again will once again take over a Philadelphia public space and picnic en masse. Interested participants register online and then await word from a group leader, who will divulge info slowly. The picnic’s location will not be revealed until just minutes before the dinner hour, but the exact date for the August event will be revealed very soon.
The first Dîner en Blanc was held in Paris in 1988 and the idea quickly spread throughout Europe. Now, there are at least one dozen cities around the world participating. The dinner is truly a sight to behold, as all participants are required to adhere to the strict dress code of all-white clothing, tables and chairs, and everything (including all food, drink and even decor) must be carried to the location via mass transit.
You can be part of this living art installation, but sign up soon, by registering through philadelphia.dinerenblanc.info. Then, relive last year’s Philadelphia Diner en Blanc by browsing photos on Facebook, or watching a recap video, and start prepping for this year by attending the Williams-Sonoma preview party on June 5.
