Devon natives Kevin and Catherina Huang, formerly of Han Dynasty’s University City location, are set to open DanDan on July 11, an upscale Asian restaurant, at 126 S. 16th Street in the Rittenhouse section of Philadelphia.Inspired by authentic Sichuan flaming wok and Taiwanese cuisine, DanDan will boast culturally rich dishes with a commitment to fresh, healthy ingredients. The menu is rooted in authentic Asian ingredients such as Sichuan peppercorn, ginger, broad bean chili paste and other spicy herbs.DanDan will offer a unique pairings menu that combines Sichuan and Taiwanese food with spirits, wine and craft beer. For guests who wish to broaden their Asian food acumen, DanDan will also serve tasting plates with small portions of traditional dishes. The menu will accommodate a variety of dietary needs by customizing plates to suit vegetarian and gluten-free diners, as well as desired levels of spiciness. The restaurant also promises a full-service bar in the future, but will open as a BYOB while awaiting a liquor license. The restaurant plans to tempt diners with three signature dishes: DanDan noodles (warmed, lo mein–style noodles tossed with chili oil, sweetened soy sauce, sesame paste, scallions and minced pork), fiery ribeye brew pot (prepared in traditional Sichuan hot pot sauce infused with beer and simmered with enoki mushrooms) and soft-shell shrimp (cooked with garlic, fried soybean crisp and fried shallots).“We are thrilled about the launch of our new brand DanDan. Through multiple years of experience operating Asian restaurants, we have ascertained our clientele’s likes and dislikes and the importance of continually evolving with the ever-changing restaurant industry,” explains co-owner Catherina Huang. “We are excited to take our talents and vision to the next level at DanDan in Rittenhouse.”Follow DanDan on Facebook for updated details regarding a planned opening date.126 S. 16th St., Philadelphia, (215) 800-1165.
