December Restaurant News & Events

Keep your eyes open for Il Porto and a new 320 Market Cafe in Media, plus Downingtown’s Orangery BYO and Ardmore’s St. James Place.

Media Hype

Swarthmore’s 320 Market Cafe is a favorite around here for good reason. Lucky for us, a second location has opened in the former Sweet Potato Café space in Media. Smaller than the Swarthmore location, it has all the delicious sandwiches, prepared foods, charcuterie and cheese varieties the original has, minus the produce and grocery section. Just a short drive away, Peter McAndrews (Paesano’s, Modo Mio, Monsú) debuts Il Porto, a new pizza joint in the old Locust Crest Tavern space off Route 352. Think pizzas from a wood-burning oven, bar snacks and heartier fare.

Fresh Fruit

Chef Sabrina Lutz and her husband, Paul, are breathing new life into Downingtown’s historic Glen Isle Estate with their Orangery BYO, which offers seasonal Tuscan cuisine.

Name Update

Months ago, I mentioned the collaboration between Philly restaurateurs Michael Schulson (Sampan) and Rob Wasserman (Rouge, 500º). Now we know the name of their Suburban Square venture, which is set to open in April. St. James Place will be an upscale yet comfy American grill.
