Chambord Is a Fruit-Filled, Sophisticated Drink

Chambord: A liqueur that’s fit for a king.

Legend has it, Louis XIV was introduced to a certain berry-flavored liqueur at the Château de Chambord. Regardless, Chambord truly is a regal blend of raspberries, blackberries, Madagascar vanilla, honey and cognac. Rarely, if ever, served alone, the syrupy concoction pairs well with just about anything.

Perhaps the best-known combination is a Kir Royale—6 ounces of champagne and a quarter-ounce of Chambord. This sophisticated cocktail is also made with crème de cassis, so be sure to specify Chambord—it’s the more decadent of the two. Chambord also sweetens up tequila, whiskey, rum and vodka, turning each a passionate red. Or you can mix it with wine to create a sangria-like drink. Mix a bottle of red with a cup of Chambord, throw in some lemon and orange slices, plus eight teaspoons of brown sugar. Refrigerate for at least four hours, and serve on ice. A hint of Chambord will even liven up your coffee, or you can pour it over vanilla ice cream. There’s also a Chambord-flavored vodka. Pair it with club soda or ginger ale. Note: Your drink will be pink.
