More than 20 of Philadelphia’s esteemed burger chefs are prepping to go to battle with their beefy combinations benefitting a terrific cause, computer labs in Philadelphia public elementary schools.
Organized by the owner of The Saint James, Rouge and 500 Degrees, Rob Wasserman, and his wife, Maggie, the third-annual Philadelphia Burger Brawl will return Sunday, May 5, 2013, 3–6 p.m. at the Fleisher Art Memorial. The 2011 and 2012 burger throwdowns successfully funded a computer lab in the William M. Meredith Elementary School, and the power duo hopes to keep up the fundraising steam through 2013.
Tickets are up for grabs at $75 per person, and include burger tastings from all participating restaurants, cocktails from Jim Beam, beer tastings from Dogfish Head, Rita’s Water Ice and more.
Noteworthy 2013 participants include: AllaSpina, Butcher and Singer, The Capital Grille, The Corner, Ela, Good Dog Bar, Lucky’s Last Chance, Shake Shack and South Philadelphia Tap Room. Wasserman’s restaurants will offer burgers, but do not take part in the competition. Former Burger Brawl winners include Top Chef’s Jen Carroll, London Grill’s Michael McNally and Bobby’s Burger Palace’s Bobby Flay.
