Bua Loy Transports Diners to Laos

Chef Bualoy Phengmisouk serves up affordable Southeast Asian cuisine in Devon.

Tucked away in a strip center, Bua Loy, with its curry-colored walls and sketches of vibrant landscapes, does its best to give diners a feel for the distant lands of Laos. At this unlikely spot for unique Southeast Asian cuisine, chef Bualoy Phengmisouk crafts exotic native dishes that are as flavorful as they are affordable.

Tender hand-pulled tapioca noodles fill aromatic bowls of Khao Piak Sen, its cilantro-scented chicken broth tinged with garlic. Also recommended: the Nam Khao, a crunchy rice salad tossed with crushed peanuts, scallions and lime and served on a fresh bed of lettuce. The Late Night Noodle—a stir fry of flat noodles, baby bok choy, carrot slivers and egg—comes with a fiery shallot-chili sauce that’s an incendiary wake-up call to the taste buds.

The BYOB’s varied menu also has a sizeable selection of Thai-inspired lunch and dinner selections, including marinated chicken and pork satays, coconut milk curries and colorful pad stir-fries. The crispy duck, seafood hot pot and vegetarian platters are all exceptional. Bring along a bottle of crisp white wine to temper your tingling lips.
