Berwyn Restaurant Review: Binni & Flynn’s is Back

After a 12 year hiatus, the Main Line favorite is back and better than ever, with authentic standbys and Americanized options for every member of the family to enjoy.

It’s 8 p.m. on a Friday night. Businessmen in neckties line the bar, sipping freshly squeezed, Patrón-spiked margaritas, while jerseyed teens occupy leather-seated high-tops, picking over baskets of warm tortilla chips. A vibrant mix of couples, singles and families fill out the exposed-brick dining room, enjoying generous portions of real-deal chiles rellenos, tamales and enchiladas.

That’s the scene almost nightly at the new Binni & Flynn’s. It’s clear that, after a 12-year siesta, Richard and Irene Coyle’s once-popular Tex-Mex spot has been missed. Last December, daughter Meridith began mulling over the idea of reviving her parents’ Southwestern-style cantina. A few months later, she replaced her Aneu Bistro & Wine Bar in Berwyn with this reliable reincarnation.

With high-quality ingredients and finely tuned drinks as her building blocks, Meridith rescued classic B&F tchotchkes from storage, reprinted original menus, and even pinned down a former chef’s offspring as the head of her new kitchen—all moves that pay homage to her parents’ hard work. Her favorite as a kid, the mildly spiced arroz de pollo remains a popular choice at the new B&F’s.

The Americanized alternatives are attractive to families with varying tastes—especially Meridith’s signature salad (with apples, bleu cheese, pistachios and strawberry vinaigrette) and the burgers, pesto pasta and veggie wraps. Yep, Binni’s is back.
