Pottstown’s Manatawny Still Works to Release New Maple Whiskey

The small batch whiskey will be available starting Nov. 21.

Known for its small batch whiskey, Manatawny Still Works has been creating distilled beverages since its founding in 2014. Over the years, the Pottstown-based company has released special editions, like its Swarmbustin’ Honey Whiskey, made in collaboration with West Grove honey makers, and Apple Brandy, partnering with Boyertown’s Frecon Farms. Its latest collaboration comes in the form of its soon-to-be-released Maple Whiskey.

Manatawny will again be partnering with a local artisan, this time Whiskey Hollow, a maple syrup producer in Avondale. Unlike its previous collaborations, this isn’t the first time the pair has worked together. Whiskey Hollow owners Kyle and Sara Dewees age some of their maple syrup in Manatawny’s barrels to give it a light whiskey flavor. That process sparked an idea for Manatawny, which took back the barrels the maple syrup was aged in to make its newest whiskey.

“We often describe our whiskey as having a maple sweetness, versus a bourbon, which has a corn sweetness,” says Manatawny’s region manager, Arthur Etchells. This newest whiskey enhances that flavor, without being overwhelmingly sweet. “In general, we try to take an approach to flavored whiskey with the idea being not to over power the whiskey, but to accentuate and be a part of it,” Etchells adds.

Manatawny will celebrate the release with a party on Nov. 21 at its Pottstown location, complete with Molly’s Shebeen and Ellen’s Edibles food trucks, plus music from Wes Johnson. It will also host a release at its Philadelphia location.

Maple Whiskey is available in a 750-milliliter bottle and retails for $45.
