It’s been over a year since chef David Ansill returned to Philadelphia from his brief chef stint in Jamaica, and we couldn’t be happier. You can spy the lively chef in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties neighborhood at his current home of Bar Ferdinand (1030 N. 2nd St.).
If you and Ansill have yet to become reacquainted over his current specialty of fine-tuned Spanish tapas, his upcoming cooking course may prove to be one of your finest culinary experiences of the summer. On Fri., July 26, at 7 p.m., the chef will bring his kitchen outdoors and invites locals to participate in an al fresco paella cooking class. Guests will enjoy an evening of learning, tasting and cooking as the innovative chef demonstrates the traditional techniques used to prepare Spain’s most recognized dish.
Cost is $40 per person (plus tax and gratuity), which includes the course, a selection of tapas, and of course, the restaurant’s signature dish—Paella Valenciana! Better yet, each attendee will take home a paella starter kit that includes Bomba rice, chorizo and paella stock.
Rain date for the class is Fri., Aug. 2. Reservations can be made by calling 215-923-1313. For more information, visit barferdinand.com.
