August can be a scorcher, so while you’re treating yourself to some cold ice cream, don’t forget to indulge your furry friend, too. Whether bringing your pup to a local event featuring homemade dog treats or helping other dogs in need, August has plenty of pooch-related events to keep you busy.
Dog Days of Summer at Swarthmore CO-OP
Stop by the Swarthmore CO-OP from 5-8 p.m. for a dog-friendly patio party. This event will feature Zsa’s Gourmet Ice Cream and Mompops gourmet popsicles for human attendees, and Bo’s Bones Gourmet Organic Dog Biscuits for the pups. The CO-OP will remain open during the event, so browse the shelves stocked with a variety of products from more than 110 local vendors. Since Zsa is the CO-OP’s featured August vendor, consider taking home a pint of salted caramel or chocolate truffles.
Dining Out For the Dogs at White Dog Cafe
Join WMMR’s Preston and Steve at White Dog Cafe on Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. and enjoy a local and seasonal dinner. WMMR on-air personalities will be at all three White Dog locations. A portion of proceeds will go toward Alpha Bravo Canine. This organization—headed by dog trainer Jennifer Green and her veteran son Kevin—works to provide veterans with a fully-trained service dog, especially those suffereing from PTSD. Additionally, White Dog Cafe has committed to purchasing a puppy from each of its locations to help three veterans. You can help even if you can’t make it to the dinner: when you dine from now until Aug. 20 at any White Dog Cafe, the restaurant will match your donation.
