10 Years of Local Beer & Food in Philadelphia

The Mid-Atlantic region’s most respected food and beer showcase, Brewer’s Plate, is back for its tenth anniversary this week.

Ten years ago, Victory Brewing Co.’s co-founder and brewmaster Bill Covaleski was fed up with the state of beer festivals. Why couldn’t the food at beer-sampling events match up to caliber of the liquid gold that was pouring? But then, he had an idea. Covaleski reached out to Fair Food’s Ann Karlen about kickstarting an event that paired locally brewed beer with locally sourced fare, with all proceeds to be fed back into the region’s sustainable system.

Now, in 2014, the definitive food and beer pairing event, identified as Brewer’s Plate, continues to rank as the Mid-Atlantic region’s most respected tasting event. The annual affair’s tenth anniversary is unfolding this Sun., March 9, flooding three floors of the Kimmel Center for the greatest party yet.

What makes the all-things-local showcase even more impressive is that all participating farms, restaurants, artisanal producers and breweries are sourced from a 150-mile radius of Philadelphia. Each participant excels in their unwavering commitment to the “buy fresh, buy local” mantra, which backs Fair Food’s philosophies and supports the mission of the event itself.

Teases to 2014’s endless roster includes Amada, Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery, Birchrun Hill Farm, Conshohocken Brewing Co., Doe Run Dairy, Eclat Chocolate, Forest & Main Brewing Company, Frecon’s Cidery, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Victory Brewing Company Brewpub, Weckerly’s Ice Cream, and more. General admission tickets are $65 per person, with designated driver admission available at $55 per person. VIP tickets are available at $135 per person, which scores you early admission, access to a private VIP area where Iron Chef Jose Garces will be hosting a Sausage Showcase, and much more.
