La Cabra Brewing is a Welcome Addition to Berwyn

The craft beer haven is perfect for families and foodies alike.

Since opening last October, La Cabra (Spanish for “the goat”) is a worthy addition to the local lineup of expanding craft-beer havens. Right across from the Berwyn train station, the 130-year-old space has been architecturally restored with meticulous care. The two-story brew-centric lounge has an industrial-hip vibe, with lofty ceilings, and garage-door-style windows that open to the street.

Co-owner/brewer Dan Popernack’s sour ales, IPAs, saisons, lagers and ciders come from a state-of-the-art on-site brewery. Family-, foodie- and hipster-friendly, chef John Hearn’s Latin-inspired menu is inventive and engaging. A crispy pork-belly Angus burger, duck fries, seared and blackened fish, and the Cubano sandwich are a few highlights. For meat-free types, the veggie burger is a hands-down winner.
