Adoptable Animal of the Week: Louise
This three-legged shepherd mix is looking to join an active family.
Though Louise is only three or four years old, she has lived a remarkable life. The snuggly shepherd mix made her way north to Kimberton’s To Love A Canine Rescue after she and her appropriately-named pup, Thelma, were taken from a high-kill shelter in the South earlier this year. En route, Louise gave birth to a litter of nine puppies, and the following day Thelma gave birth to a litter of her own. All of their pups have since been adopted. Louise still needed some care—the shelter’s staff discovered she was heartworm positive and had a lame front paw inflicted from a close range shot. Before the staff could do anything with her paw, they had to cure her heartworm. After nearly six months of treatment and recovery, the staff determined her paw would have to be amputated. After a tumultuous 2016, Louise is ready to have a happy and healthy life. With the right family, her cheerful disposition will continue to shine through.
